Multiple Awards for New Gambrel on the Block!

Our project, New Gambrel on the Block, was awarded all three 2020 BLEND Awards that it was eligible for: Residential New Construction Winner, People’s Choice Winner, AND Best in Show!

The BLEND Award is given to projects which respect and celebrate the existing context of the surrounding neighborhood. Thus, to receive an award, a new building (or extensive remodel) must blend with the unique character of its Minneapolis or St Paul neighborhood. In addition, BLEND recognizes the importance for redevelopments to respect neighbors’ privacy and sunlight.

Our project, New Gambrel on the Block, is a new, custom home that is designed to blend into the existing “Cottage City” neighborhood in Linden Hills. To blend this home with the surrounding neighborhood, we incorporated the “Gambrel” roof form, which is a barn-shaped roof that reduces the scale of a 2-story home to appear as a story-and-a-half.  With a Gambrel home existing on either side, this is the New Gambrel on the Block.

An investment in quality materials, including crisp lap-siding and a cedar shingle roof, adds richness and timelessness to the home, making it appear as if this home was restored from an earlier age.  This home will contribute to the neighborhood’s character for generations.
