¡Caliente! ADU: Read All About It!
Our newest accessory dwelling unit (ADU), called ¡Caliente!, is now published in the Star Tribune’s October Home of the Month.
This ADU was built as a solution to the homeowners’ desire for more space in their 1,100 square foot home. After the birth of their child, they wanted a larger home - but did not want to leave their Longfellow neighborhood. Thus, they contacted Chris, who they described as “the ADU guru in the area.”
The ADU has 550 square feet of living space located above a 2-car garage. As Chris explains in the Star Tribune article, the homeowners “wanted a very separate space - something completely different from the regular house - a fun experience that takes them out of everyday life.” The space serves as a fun, vibrant family room, as well as space for the homeowners’ parents to stay when they visit.
Chris suggested a bold exterior color because the ADU is hidden behind the house. They settled on a paint called Caliente, which was coincidentally Benjamin Moore’s 2018 Paint of the Year. As for the bold interiors, the homeowners explained to Star Tribune, “We wanted a 70’s rec room feeling. I know white interiors are super on-trend, but I find them sterile and boring.” Thus, this small ADU became a bold, bright, and celebratory space.
The homeowners stated that the ADU also functions as a “sanctuary” - serving as an escape when they need a nap, or uninterrupted sleep.
