Gathering Together on Lake of the Isles

The remodel and addition of this 1915 Tudor Revival resulted in a historic home which allows for modern life with an open floor plan and fun, family-specific touches throughout.
The homeowners, a family of four, loved the home’s historic details such as the old woodwork on the doorways, windows, and fireplace, but needed a modernized floor plan and additional living space. To update the home, CSA did careful work around existing historic elements.
The attic, which was used as an uninsulated storage space for 100 years, was transformed into a kid-friendly hangout. The sloped roof was re-structured to allow for new dormers and high-performance insulation. A window seat provides a cozy space within the room to observe the lake.
The basement was transformed into a space dedicated to traditional English pub games and enjoying a pint. An existing exterior door (a la “Cheers”) allows guests to come and go without entering the main level. Rift-sawn oak paneling surrounds the space and supports a drink rail and bar-top.
