Midwest Home Features Tree Top Escape
Tree Top Escape, our recently completed remodeled porch and deck, was featured in Midwest Home.
The homeowners purchased this home for the backyard, which overlooks Minnehaha Creek. However, the existing deck was not ideal. As stated in the article, the existing deck seemed to “act as a barrier from the greenery rather than a transition to it.” In addition, the deck had begun to rot.
Thus, the homeowners decided to create a new deck and screened-in porch. However, the existing oak trees - tall, large, and prized by the homeowners - had to be carefully considered to avoid harming them. As a solution, Chris determined that helical piers (giant screws that go straight into the ground) would be used for the deck’s structural support. This avoids excavating near the oak trees and possibly disturbing them.
The completed porch serves as a relaxing, everyday destination for the homeowners.
