Historic Remodel Featured in Midwest Home

Midwest Homes published an article about the Lake of the Isles Home. The remodel and addition of this 1915 Tudor Revival resulted in a historic home which allows for modern life with an open floor plan and fun, family-specific touches throughout.

The homeowners, a family of four, loved the home’s historic details such as the old woodwork on the doorways, windows, and fireplace, but needed a modernized floor plan and additional living space. The attic, which was used as an un-insulated storage space for 100 years, was transformed into a kid-friendly hangout. The sloped roof was re-structured to allow for new dormers and high-performance insulation.  A window seat provides a cozy space within the room to observe the lake.  The basement was transformed into a space dedicated to traditional English pub  games and enjoying a pint.  An existing exterior door (a la “Cheers”) allows guests to come and go without entering the main level. Rift-sawn oak paneling surrounds the space and supports a drink rail and bar-top.
