Assisting with Brooklyn Park ADU Development

This week, Chris Strom had the opportunity to meet with a team from the city of Brooklyn Park to discuss the development of a future ADU ordinance.

ADUs, or accessory dwelling units, are independent housing units located on the same lot as a single-family home complete with their own kitchen, bathroom, and separated entrance. As the demand for affordable housing increases, cities are adjusting their zoning guidelines to accommodate growing interest in ADUs.

Read more about why people choose to build ADUs on our informational site linked here.

Chris has worked closely with city zoning staff in Minneapolis and Edina on residential code changes, including the adoption of the Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance in 2014. Over the past 10 years, he has remained an expert on ADU zoning guidelines as more Minnesotan cities legalize ADU construction.

Cities that permit ADUs include: Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Edina, Richfield, Roseville, Golden Valley, Wayzata, Bloomington, Columbia Heights, Burnsville, Eagan, White Bear Lake, New Brighton, Orono, Fridley, Crystal, Northfield, Long Lake, Duluth, and Rochester.

We hope Brooklyn Park will be added to the list in the future!

Many thanks to the Brooklyn Park team for coming out to our office!
